How do I set-up email in Apple Mail?

To set-up a mailbox using POP3 or IMAP in Apple's Mail software (mail.app) on Mac OS X please follow the instructions below.

Open Mail and select Preferences from the mail menu at the top of the screen.

A new window will open on the General Tab. If you select the Accounts tab and then click the '+' button on the bottom left of the window. This will open the 'Add Account' screen:

Enter the following details:

Full Name: your name Email Address: your email address Password: your mailbox password

and then click 'Continue'

You will then see the 'Incoming Mail Server' screen:

Account Type: POP or IMAP
Description: your name or email address
Incoming Mail Server: normally mail.yourdomain.co.uk
User Name: your email address/mailbox name
Password: your mailbox password

Then click 'Continue'

You will then be on the 'Outgoing Mail Server' screen:

Description: your name
Outgoing Mail Server: normally mail.yourdomain.co.uk
Use only this server (select this option)

Use Authentication (select this option)
User Name: your email address/mailbox name
Password: your mailbox password

Then click 'Continue'

You should then get an 'Account Summary' screen.

Simply click 'Create' to set-up the account.

You should then return to the accounts screen with the main mail screen open showing the new email account on the left side.

You should now be able to send and receive email using the email address and mailbox.
